Starting in June 2021, Coastal Carolina University will be under the leadership of a new president.
Dr. Michael T. Benson has been tapped as the new president of Coastal Carolina University. CCU’s Board of Trustees recently selected the new president after conducting an extensive search, which began two years ago.
Benson previously served as the president of Eastern Kentucky University from 2013 to 2020 and is currently a visiting professor at Johns Hopkins University.
Current CCU president, David Decenzo, announced his retirement in December 2018 after serving the university for thirteen years.
In a statement regarding the selection of a new president, Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees and chair of CCU’s Presidential Search Committee Delan Stevens said, “We have had an intense and thorough search for the next president of Coastal Carolina University. This search culminated in several rounds of vetting. I believe based on these sessions, that one candidate has risen to the top of our deliberations.”
The decision was unanimous, with all members of the Board of Trustees voting in favor of Benson to become the next president of Coastal Carolina University.
