How to Celebrate Memorial Day in Myrtle Beach

Memorial Day is a special day meant to honor the military personnel who have died while serving our country. Here are some ways you can acknowledge the individuals who sacrificed it all. Check out these Memorial Day events around Myrtle Beach!

Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony

A ceremony in memory of those who lost their lives serving our country will take place on Monday, May 31 at 10:30 am at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. There will be a performance from a brass brand, various speakers and recognition of veterans from every major conflict.

Military Appreciation Days Picnic and Exhibits

Enjoy a free family picnic in Valor Memorial Garden at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 29. There will be live music, exhibits and more!

Veterans’ March on Memorial Day

On Monday, May 31 at 9:00 am, a Veterans’ March will take place along Ocean Boulevard. While the public is encouraged to come and show their support, it is important to note that the event is not a parade – it is a march to observe the meaning of Memorial Day.

Sun Fun Festival is Coming Back This Summer

The Sun Fun Festival is coming back to Myrtle Beach this summer.

The Sun Fun Festival first began in the 1950s and has been a long-standing festival in the Grand Strand area. However, the festival endured a five year hiatus from 2011 and 2016 and was cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Myrtle Beach City Council recently approved a permit for the festival to come back this summer.

This year’s festival will be the 65th event of it’s kind and take place from June 4 to June 6 at various locations around Myrtle Beach including Plyler Park and the boardwalk. Guests will be able to enjoy live music, vendors and various performers during the event, which is free for the public.

Some of the highlights of this year’s event include music from Swingin’ Medallions and Too Much Sylvia, a sand sculpture competition and a Sun Fun parade.

Brookgreen Gardens to Host Spring Wine Festival

Wine down at Brookgreen Gardens Spring Wine Festival this May.

On Saturday, May 8 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Brookgreen Gardens will host this inaugural event full of wine tastings, live music, raffles, local vendors and more. 

The festival is expected to garner 500 attendees, all of whom will be able to taste some of the most exquisite wines while strolling through the beautiful landscapes that Brookgreen Gardens has to offer.

Brookgreen Gardens has received numerous awards for their breathtaking gardens including being named one of the Top 10 Public Gardens in the US by Coastal Living Magazine and “One of the seven wonders of the Carolinas” by Charlotte Observer.

Tickets for the Spring Wine Festival are $30 per person. Each ticket includes a wristband for admission as well as 10 tasting tickets.

2021 Schedule Announced for the Myrtle Beach Pelicans

After having to cancel their 2020 baseball season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans are eager to get back on the field. 

Officials for the Pelicans released their 2021 schedule, which includes 120 total games – 60 games at home and 60 games on the road. 

The Pelicans will take the field for the first time in over a year on Tuesday, May 11 for their season opener against the Augusta GreenJackets. 

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans recently accepted Major League Baseball’s invitation to remain a Low-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs. However, there are some changes coming as the Pelicans enter a league (the South Division) with other teams from South Carolina for the first time. The South Division will now include in-state rivals like the Charleston RiverDogs and Columbia Fireflies.

All teams are abiding by the health and safety protocols set by the MLB to ensure everyone can safely enjoy the games this year.

Bend and Brunch: Yoga Class at Tidal Creek Brewhouse

Yoga and beer – what more could you ask for? Spend your Sunday morning flowing in the Tidal Creek Brewhouse beer garden before grabbing brunch and some brews. Classes are only $10 and take place every Sunday morning from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. 

Himalayan Sattva Yoga

For just $15 per class, you can deepen your practice and knowledge of yoga through Himalayan Sattva Yoga. Sacred Yoga Tribe hosts these unique and soothing classes every Monday and Thursday at 6:00 pm. 

Yoga on the Beach

Namaste at the beach! Relax and unwind on the beach at Yoga on the Beach. Hope Bray, a registered yoga teacher, leads these flows every Thursday morning at 10:00 am at Beach Access #14 – just be sure to bring a mat or towel with you.

Yoga on the Patio at Clean Eatz Carolina Forest

Sea Yoga and Clean Eatz have teamed up to offer a weekly yoga class, perfect for all levels. Every Tuesday at 9:30 am, venture to Clean Eatz at 4012 Postal Way for Yoga on the Patio. Bring $10 for the class and a yoga mat or beach towel to practice on.

4th Annual Ocean Drive Beach Music Festival Returning in May

Jam out at the 4th Annual Ocean Drive Beach Music Festival on Saturday, May 1st. The Ocean Drive Beach Music Festival will kick off a variety of music festivals set to grace the Myrtle Beach area this summer.

The music festival, which is hosted by Carolina Outdoor Power Equipment and 94.9 The Surf and will be emceed by Mike Worley and Chris Sain, will take place in the Ocean Drive Parking Lot on 1st Avenue South, North Myrtle Beach. 

The current concert lineup includes bands like Too Much Sylvia, Band of Oz and Jim Quick & Coastline.

Eager to attend this year’s music festival? Advanced tickets are currently $25 and only include entry to the festival. Concert-goers can also reserve tent spaces. Gates open at 10:00 am and all attendees can bring coolers and chairs. However, glass containers are not allowed inside the venue area.

ArtFields Is Coming Back In 2021

ArtFields, one of the Pee Dee’s largest events, is coming back to Lake City. 

ArtFields is a popular arts festival that showcases a variety of artwork and artists throughout downtown Lake City, South Carolina. It’s also a large attraction and benefit to businesses in the area. This year’s event will take place from April 23rd through May 1st. 

Roberta Burns, Lake City ArtFields Collective Marketing Manager, said “Being able to host ArtFields again really means a way we can offer a space where people can celebrate and connect, and I think over the past year we’ve missed those opportunities.”

Officials are working to ensure everyone is safe at the event. Burns said “we hope we can keep everyone really well informed, get people masked up and safely enjoy this and really show that when you have events like this and proper social distancing in place, when you’re wearing masks, can happen safely and we can get back to a sense of normal and connect and enjoy like never before.”

Pirate’s Voyage Dinner & Show

Located on N King’s Highway, Pirate’s Voyage follows the life of the legendary pirate Blackbeard and his quartermaster Calico Jack through treacherous land and sea battles.Pirate’s Voyage also offers a four-course pirate feast complete with food like Captain’s BBQ Pork, Pirate Herb-basted Potato and Apple O’ Me Eye Pie. Their shows start back up on March 18th and continue throughout the spring.
