Feature image source: Mel’s Video of the Day

Get out your dancing shoes! All are invited to attend the 37th annual National Shag Dance Championship from March 12-14th. Hosted at the Spanish Galleon at the OD Beach & Golf Resort in North Myrtle Beach, dozens of dancers ranging from juniors to pros will show off their shag dancing skills to the public. This year’s contest will celebrate dances from the Roaring 20’s, like “The Charleston” with costumes, celebrating the new decade.

Shows will start at 8 p.m. on Thursday and 7:30 p.m. Friday & Saturday. Reserved grandstand seating for all three nights is sold out, but general admission prices are as follows: $15 Thursday/$20 Friday/$25 Saturday. Additionally, tickets will be sold at the door.

The NSDC originally started in Myrtle Beach in 1984 and holds the record for the longest continuously running shag dance contest in the United States. Held over two weekends each year, the qualifying Preliminaries round was held at the end of January. Past winners of the contest have performed on countless TV shows and events, ranging from Good Morning America to NBA Games.
