CCU Plans to Build Multi-Million Dollar Football Complex

Coastal Carolina’s Board of Trustees recently approved the erection of a new multi-million dollar football complex.

The proposed facility would be located across from University Boulevard near Brooks Stadium.

According to Chief Financial Officer David Frost, these plans have been a longtime coming saying “Moving University Boulevard to the other side has been in the works … been on the master plan for a long time.”

The purpose of the facility would be to house an indoor practice facility for the Coastal Carolina University football team. The 78,000 square-foot facility is expected to cost around $15 million to erect but would be fully funded by donors.

The vote took place on May 6th – however, the Coastal Educational Fund must approve the proposed facility before construction can begin.

In addition to the proposed football facility, the university’s Board of Trustees also voted to put $300,000 in CARES Act funds towards helping students get the COVID-19 vaccine, while still maintaining the cost of tuition and room and board.

Coastal Carolina Head Coach Named Walter Camp Coach of the Year

Coastal Carolina’s football team has had quite the year and the program continues to rack in the awards.

Coastal Carolina head football coach Jamey Chadwell was recently voted the Walter Camp Coach of the Year. The award is voted upon by 130 Football Bowl Subdivision head coaches and directors across the nation.

Chadwell led the Chanticleer’s to their first ever 8-0 Sun Belt Conference record and an 11-1 overall record, with their only loss coming in their first FBS postseason bowl game last weekend. Coastal Carolina was ranked as high as No. 9 in the AP’s top 25 football teams this year.

The Walter Camp Coach of the Year award is Chadwell’s third national coach of the year award so far. He was also named the Sporting News’ 2020 Coach of the Year, the 2020 CBS Sports/247Sports Coach of the Year and the Paul “Bear” Bryant Group of 5 2020 Conference Coach of the Year. Chadwell has also been named a finalist for a variety of other awards, some of which have yet to be announced.

Even during one of the most challenging years for sports programs, Jamey Chadwell’s Coastal Carolina football team has found a way to prevail and deliver some must-watch television.
