Parlor Doughnuts Sets Up Shop in Pawleys Island

A Midwest-based donut and coffee shop, Parlor Doughnuts, is coming to Pawleys Island!

Unlike traditional chain coffee and donut shops in the area, Parlor Doughnuts offers fresh breakfast food including layered donuts, breakfast tacos and avocado toast.

Toni Ricker, Regional Manager of Parlor Doughnuts, said “There is nothing quite like us (around here). If you’re looking for something that is fresh, prepared on site and not shipped in a truck, we’re here.

In terms of the atmosphere, Ricker said “Nostalgia is the No. 1 thing, every location has an old time big floor radio somewhere. It’s very raw Americana … but there’s definitely this weird fine line between nostalgia and hipster coffee house.”

Ricker hopes that in addition to providing tasty treats, the space can also be used for individuals, students and business people to gather.

Parlor Doughnuts will be located off U.S. 17 and is expected to open their doors to customers in May.

CCU Plans to Build Multi-Million Dollar Football Complex

Coastal Carolina’s Board of Trustees recently approved the erection of a new multi-million dollar football complex.

The proposed facility would be located across from University Boulevard near Brooks Stadium.

According to Chief Financial Officer David Frost, these plans have been a longtime coming saying “Moving University Boulevard to the other side has been in the works … been on the master plan for a long time.”

The purpose of the facility would be to house an indoor practice facility for the Coastal Carolina University football team. The 78,000 square-foot facility is expected to cost around $15 million to erect but would be fully funded by donors.

The vote took place on May 6th – however, the Coastal Educational Fund must approve the proposed facility before construction can begin.

In addition to the proposed football facility, the university’s Board of Trustees also voted to put $300,000 in CARES Act funds towards helping students get the COVID-19 vaccine, while still maintaining the cost of tuition and room and board.
